How to stop spotify from adding songs

  1. Open up Spotify and select the “Help” icon which will be represented by the question mark located in the top right corner of the screen.
  2. On the left hand side, select “Settings”. The settings menu can be sorted by clicking on any column heading, for example, “Turn off auto add”. If this option is turned off then step 5 below does not apply.
  3. Click on “Your Library” and click on the “Edit” option.
  4. On the top of the page it should say “Add a song to your library”. To stop this, simply click on “Don’t add automatically” and it will turn green and say you are no longer automatically adding songs.
  5. Add the music you want to listen to by clicking on the desired album or artist hence why step 3 was crucial. To add an album, simply click on any icon next to an album/artist. This will add that album/artist to your library. You can also add songs by going into any desired artist or albums listing and clicking on “+ Add”. Songs can be added individually, or all at once.
  6. At the bottom of the page is a box that says “In your library”. Click on “edit” and then click on “remove from library”. If you want to keep any particular song you can add it again by clicking on its corresponding album/artist icon.
  7. Click on “done” and exit out of Spotify. You will now no longer see that you are adding your music automatically. If you still see that it is auto updating, then simply refresh the page for it to disappear again.
  8. Now that you no longer see that it is automatically updating your library, it is now time to delete any unwanted songs.
  9. Click on the “Note” icon which represents a piece of paper located in the top right corner of your screen. This will give you the option to either delete individual songs or an entire album/artist. Select the choice you want and Spotify will ask if you are sure. Select yes and it will be removed from your library.
  10. If you want to view which songs and albums have been added to your library, simply go back into the settings menu and scroll down to “Your Library” again. You should see a list of all the songs and albums that have been inserted into your library, (though not by adding it automatically).
  11. You can now delete any unwanted items that you may have in your music library by clicking on its corresponding album/artist icon.

If you are in a situation where you have your Spotify music library closed, and you still have songs that Spotify has automatically added through the app, then this can be done. All you need to do is click on the record icon in the top right corner of the screen, select “Edit” and then click on “remove from library”.
