Last Updated on by admin

If you are attempting to take a screenshot on your MacBook and can’t figure out how to do it, then this article is for you.

Here I will walk you through the steps of taking a screenshot on your MacBook, how to save it, and how to delete it.

Take a Screenshot on your Macbook

The first step is quite simple: Press down Shift + Command + 3 at the same time. Or you could just press the screenshot button you see at the top of your screen. Either way both methods will take a screenshot of your MacBook’s screen. If you press the button, then it will also save this screenshot to your desktop as well (see screenshots) In either scenario there are two ways to take a screenshot on your MacBook – either directly from the keyboard or using the app in Mac OS X.

Save Screenshots to a File on your MacBook

After you have taken the screenshot it will be saved on your desktop. You can either move it to another location, or delete it here by dragging it to the trash. If you want to save your screenshots, then this is where you would click the screenshot that was just taken, and then choose an application or folder to save it in. In this example I’m saving this screenshot as a PDF and I’m going to put it in iBooks so that I can keep track of my work.

Keep in mind that these are just the basics of how to take and delete a screenshot on your MacBook computer running Mac OS X or OSX. If you want to learn more, then check out this article.

How to Delete your Screenshot on a Macbook

In this step I’m going to explain how to remove your file, or move it elsewhere on your MacBook. If you are not saving it, then there is no reason to have it on your desktop – so go ahead and simply drag it to the trash can icon in order to delete it or store it elsewhere (see screenshots). Here I will show you two ways of deleting a screenshot from your MacBook.

Drag and Drop your Screenshot from the Desktop

For most people, this is an easier way to remove something. To do this, simply drag your screenshot anywhere you want on your desktop, and then click the “X” in the top right corner of it. (see screenshots) If you are using a MacBook Air, then there may be a different icon to drag and drop the screenshot. Just make sure that you see either a trashcan or an application icon that looks like a folder.

Open up a Finder Window

If you prefer to use your Mac for a little longer before getting rid of your file, then you can also do this. Press Command + Shift + G and type “~/Desktop”. Once there, simply click and drag the screenshot. This is a great way if you want to hold onto the screenshots for a particular project or business venture. If you work on graphic design projects then this can save you from having to re-take a screenshot every time. Once the screenshot is where you want it, just delete it from there and it will be gone forever.

Conclusion

Now that you have the basics of taking a screenshot on your Macbook and removing them from your desktop, you can rest easy knowing that you are in control of your desktop.
