How to Access Secret Menus on your Roku Device

How to Access Secret Menus on your Roku Device

Last Updated on by admin

Wouldn’t it be nice to access the latest and greatest of what your favorite channels have to offer? Well, with the secret menu you can. Roku devices have a library of hidden menus with all sorts of goodies, but they are not so easy to navigate.

It can be tricky to find those secret menus. Luckily, I’ve done the research, and I have the secret codes and steps needed to access those menus on Roku devices.

How to Access Secret Menus on Roku Devices

Before we get started we will need a couple of things: A Roku device with a working Internet connection, a Roku remote control with at least one button that you can press, and last but not least; your password for the account you are using for this tutorial

Now that you have gotten the needed things, let’s get right into it.

Every Roku device has a secret button. Different models have different buttons, but there is always one. In some cases, the button is right on the remote and in others it may be hidden inside the battery compartment. It can really be any button you want to use, just as long as it doesn’t do anything else when pressed.

The Roku 2 XS, 2 XD and 2 XDS have a button hidden under the battery compartment, while the Roku 1 XS and Roku 1 XD have it right on the remote. You may have to pop open your remote to see which button it is; my suggestion is to look for one that doesn’t do anything else when pressed. If you can’t determine which button this is simply use the directional buttons on your remote as a start and test each one until you get something different from what you already have.

Now that you know what remote you have and which button you’re going to use, let’s get started.

Go to the Home screen.

Note: If this is not your first time using Roku, you may have to go through the setup process again by selecting “Setup” on your Roku home screen. This will allow you to change your password from the default one that was assigned when you installed the device.

Once you’ve entered your password and connected to the Internet, you’ll be taken to the main Home screen.

Add a channel from the channel store.

To access any hidden menus, you will need to add a channel from the Roku Channel store. To do this simply select “Channel Store” from your main home screen or go directly to Roku Channel Store here.

Then scroll down to the end of the store and select “Enter”.

On the next screen you will find a list of all of your channels. Select one that sounds interesting and then press “Add channel”. This could be a channel that you would like to watch but haven’t yet, or a channel that you are familiar with from other devices. Whatever it may be, add a channel, any channel (as long as it is not on your Roku already).

Once you do this your channel will be added to the Roku device.

Navigate to the add channel screen and make sure that the channel you added is not already on your Roku. If it is, simply navigate back a little bit and select “Enter” again, and then scroll down to find the new channel you just added.

Notice that there are two additional options besides “Add Channel” available from this menu.

Accessing the Secret menus on your Roku Device

Once the channel is added you will see a notification on your Roku device.

Restart your Roku.

To access the secret menu, you need to restart your Roku device. First unplug it from the power source and wait for a little bit (30 seconds or so). Then plug it back in and wait for about another minute for it to reboot into its normal state.

Log in to your Roku account.

Next, you are going to Log in to your Roku account using the “Login” button on the remote. When you do this, you will be taken back to the Home screen, as if you had just double clicked on “Home”. The difference is that your option has changed. Instead of “Home” it will be one of the emblems at the bottom of that same home screen.

Why Roku secret menu may not work

There are two ways that your secret menu may not work or you may not be able to find it. In my tests of all the different models of Roku devices that I have seen, I have only seen this happen rarely.

The first is if your Roku device has turned off for some reason or is vulnerable to an attack, you may not see the secret menu even when your Roku device is powered on. If this is the case, try turning your Roku device off and back on again to see if it can see the secret menu.

The second is if you have recently installed a new software version, there is a chance that you may not be able to access your secret menu. This can happen as soon as an update goes out even when the device itself seems fine. Make sure that all of your channels are working properly before you update your Roku device since this can affect some of the channels available on it (especially premium channels).

Once you have seen the secret menu on your Roku device and you are ready to add a channel, simply scroll down on your Roku home screen and select “Add Channel” from the main menu. This will bring up the same type of screen that you previously saw with the channel store. In this screen, you need to locate and select a new channel that has not been installed yet. Once you have found it, press “Enter” to include it in your Roku device.

Once the new channel has been added, a notification will pop up asking you to restart your Roku device. You need to restart this device in order for the new channels to take effect.

You can exit at any time by pressing the “Back” button on your remote, or if you have a second remote you can use that as well. As long as you don’t press anything else on your remote control, it will continue to work even when it is not responding for a little bit. When you reboot your Roku device, you will be taken back to the main home screen.

How to Fix the Roku Secret menu when its not working

If your secret menu is not working for any reason, there are a few different things that you can try to fix it. The easiest way to do this is by following the steps below.

You will need to power your Roku device down and then back on again in order for it to be able to see the secret menu.

Tap – Use the “tap” button at the bottom of your Roku remote if you have one. If you don’t have one you can also use the “OK” button or the “Play/Pause” button (on some models).

Press – Use the “press” button if you have one. If you don’t have one do the same thing as with the button but don’t hold it down (just tap it).

Click – When the Roku remote has a button on it, use that button instead. The “click” button is usually in the top right corner of the remote and will be a white circle with a line through it. You can also use the “pause” button if you don’t have one.

Tap & go – This can be used when you are using your mobile device to control your Roku TV.

If you have a touchscreen device or a Roku TV, tap and hold – You will see a “pinwheel” type image appear on your screen. Rotate this image around until all of the lines in the pinwheel are gone. This can take a few seconds and you will feel your screen vibrate when it is done.

Otherwise, you can do the same thing by holding down on your Roku remote if it have a button on it. This is a little bit different because you will see only numbers instead of images and when you do this, you will see several numbers flash like a grid. You need to keep holding down on the remote until all of the numbers turn white. Then you can release your hold on the remote and it should be working again.

You may need to repeat this step a few times, especially if you have an older device.

If none of these options work for you, try visiting the Roku website for help.
